Attorney Pomerleau was quoted in a shocking recent article from The New Bedford Light.

“You have to feel like the system isn't rigged against you one way or the other, and those letters are very troubling,” said Attorney Pomerleau to reporter Grace Ferguson.

The article goes into detail about the investigation of an alleged affair between New Bedford District Court Judge Douglas Darnbrough and Bristol County assistant prosecutor Karlyn Butler. The results of which could affect around 3,700 criminal cases in Massachusetts, according to the article.

Pomerleau supported the investigation with an amicus brief, a legal document an entity can file to court because of interest in a pending case, on behalf of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, an organization with which he holds membership.

He detailed how affected defendants could likely be entitled to new trials, which may need to be held outside of the Bristol County District Court if the attorney's office "is determined to be too deeply entangled in any misconduct uncovered," according to the article. He also spoke about how courts could "sanction the district attorney's office for misconduct by dismissing charges altogether."

“If this happened, there needs to be accountability,” said Attorney Pomerleau.
