The case, with an eye-catching headline, made national news. Ferreira is the former fiancée of Karoline Leavitt's brother. She was arrested by ICE in Revere, Massachusetts while on her way to pick up her son from school in New Hampshire.
Ferreira was brought to the US as a young child. Before her unlawful arrest, she was in the process of applying for a green card, which would grant her legal permanent residency. During the 26 days she was held in ICE custody, she was moved to four other state facilities before ending up in South Louisiana ICE Processing Center. Finally, on Monday Dec. 9 2025, thanks to the work of Rubin & Pomerleau PC, a Federal immigration judge ordered for her release.
Ferreira's case is not unusual; countless unlawful arrests like this are happening every day.
