Boston - Sara Miron Bloom, former Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, joins Rubin | Pomerleau as of-counsel and will manage federal litigation.  Attorney Bloom will separately serve as the litigation director of the new nonprofit Mass Deportation Defense, Inc, of which Rubin | Pomerleau stands proudly as a gold sponsor.  “Sara is focused, intelligent and sympathetic to the plight of immigrants.  Her obvious experience and maturity is a game-changer for us,” said Jeffrey B. Rubin, partner at Rubin | Pomerleau.  “Sara brings unparalleled expertise to an area of critical need—vigorously defending the rights of noncitizens and holding the government accountable when it violates those rights,” said Todd C. Pomerleau, partner at Rubin | Pomerleau and cofounder of Mass Deportation Defense.

Rubin | Pomerleau is a Supreme Court winning immigration law firm.  Mass Deportation Defense is a nonprofit created in late 2025 to combat the immigration crisis to protect against the abuse of constitutional rights. These two entities have been at the forefront of the immigration battles across the country, handling several high profile cases of national importance.

Sara has had a distinguished legal career, including leading and managing the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Rhode Island, serving as the Acting United States Attorney  during the last year.  She also served as the First Assistant United States Attorney in Rhode Island since 2022.

Sara also has over twenty-five years experience as Assistant U.S. Attorney in Massachusetts

During her more than 30 years with the Department of Justice, Sara's work included bringing civil and criminal cases to stop illegal behavior and change industry behavior and protect government programs and benefits for those for whom they were intended, often including the most vulnerable members of our communities.  During her tenure in the Department of Justice, she became a national leader in designing and leading case teams to pursue nationwide impact litigation under the False Claims Act.  She led cases that recovered approximately $11 billion for the taxpayers of the United States, as well as preventing further frauds on critical government programs.  She also handled and oversaw the civil and criminal immigration cases.  She has handled numerous Federal Tort Claims Act and Bivens cases.  She has received numerous awards for her work, including with the Department of Justice's highest honor, the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service in 2010, and the Honest Abe Integrity in Government Award from Taxpayers Against Fraud in 2013.

Before joining the Department of Justice, Sara was a litigation associate at a major Boston law firm, where she also represented individuals seeking asylum and worked extensively on the civil rights case that established a constitutional right to an education in Massachusetts.

Sara is a 1985 graduate of Swarthmore College with highest honors. She received her law degree from Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1988, where she was a member of the Law Review. Upon graduation, she clerked for federal judge Robert Keeton before starting her litigation career.

“I am thrilled and honored to join Mass Deportation Defense and join Rubin | Pomerleau to provide access to counsel for those facing threats of deportation, detention and daunting immigration proceedings.  I look forward to bringing the skills and dedication to the cause of justice that I have sought to uphold in my years at the Department of Justice to ensure that immigrants receive fair treatment, real due process and protection of their rights while they pursue the American dream through their immigration cases,” said Sara Bloom.
